FURTHER QUALIFICATION FOR TUTORS

Further qualification for tutors

Tutors make a large and steadily increasing contribution to teaching at TUHH (approx. 1000 tutor contracts per year). They are especially indispensable in bachelor studies.
By participating in our trainings and leading courses, tutors expand their interdisciplinary competences and acquire additional qualifications relevant to the future job.
For successful participation in the training, they receive a certificate and, under certain conditions, two credit points in the non-technical offer.

We offer tailor-made qualifications for tutors of the following teaching formats as well as the short format TeachING Appetizer for all teachers:

offers

Exercises

For tutors who regularly organise exercises, e.g. in mechanics, electrical engineering or computer science.

Accompany groups

For tutors who supervise groups in the context of project work and PBL events

Teaching Appetizer

Short & crisp - our taster for ALL status groups

Promoting young academics

Tutor qualifications serve to promote young researchers in the long term, as many of the tutors become research assistants after graduation.

Katharina Fegebank, 2nd Mayor of Hamburg and Senator for Science:

“The work of tutors cannot be overestimated! They help with the start of studies, with study crises, with exam preparation and thus make a significant contribution to making studying a success. In addition, the accompanying qualification of the ZLL is exemplary throughout Germany. The tutors receive excellent preparation and ongoing didactic support. Afterwards, they evaluate their courses together with the full-time lecturers. In this way, they also benefit themselves! Many of those who have led a tutorial later pursue a career in science. I would like to thank all students who share their knowledge and experience with younger students during their own studies! They help with the start of studies, with study crises, with exam preparation and thus make a significant contribution to successful studying. In addition: The accompanying qualification of the ZLL is exemplary nationwide. The tutors receive excellent preparation and ongoing didactic support. Afterwards, they evaluate their courses together with the full-time teachers. In this way, they also benefit themselves! Many of those who have once led a tutorial later pursue a career in science.

Teaching awards for tutors

“Tutorinnen und Tutoren sprechen oft eine Sprache, die andere Studierende gut verstehen und bieten eine Lernatmosphäre frei von Angst vor vermeintlich „dummen“ Fragen. Darüber hinaus fungieren sie als wichtiges Bindeglied zwischen den Hochschullehrenden und den Studierenden.”
(Kerstin Kuchta, Vice President Teaching)

To honour these achievements, we have awarded a teaching prize for outstanding tutorial work from 2016 to 2020. You can find more information here: https://www2.tuhh.de/zll/lehrpreis-fuer-tutorinnen/
