Background and motivation

Additive manufacturing (AM) offers great potential for the simple and direct production of complex and functional components made of polymers and metals. Additive Manufacturing also offers a uniquely suited framework for enabling a digital process chain since the CAD data can be directly fed into the processes to produce parts directly. However, there are many input variables, such as material used, powder characteristics, machines parameters, etc. On the other hand there are several quality criteria of the finished AM-parts such as tensile strength or surface roughness. Currently however, it’s difficult to find clear correlations between different AM-parameters, e.g. certain powder characteristics to part quality due to many cross-correlations and varying influencing variables.

One way to partially solve this problem is the use of ai-driven correlation models. Thus, this work aims to create and use a correlation model that is based on the already collected data points from the institute’s data pool. The results of the developed correlation model are compared to regular statistical analysis and evaluated.
