The LearnING Center allows you to learn, accompanied by tutors. Whether you are studying alone or in a group, whether you are preparing for exams or midterms, solving exercises or preparing for and following up lectures, tutors are there to help you. If you get stuck or have questions, you can ask the tutors. They will help you solve your problem
While the respective institutes can also help with organizational issues (such as exam conditions), the LearnING Center is only about learning the subject content.
In the LearnING Center, students have the opportunity to learn accompanied by tutors. Whether they are studying alone or in a group, whether they are preparing for exams or midterms, solving exercises or preparing for and following up lectures, tutors are there to help them. If students get stuck at a certain point or have questions, they can contact the tutors. These will assist students in solving the problem.
In the winter semester 2014/15 alone, more than 14,000 hours of supervised learning took place at the LearnING Center. This number was achieved because, compared to previous semesters, the LearnING Center was increasingly visited by students shortly after the start of lectures.
In order to prepare the tutors of the LearnING Center in the best possible way for their demanding task, a customized training course was designed especially for them, which takes place promptly before the start of the semester. In addition to getting to know the background to didactics, a large part of the training time is spent on the actual task of the tutors: Leading the conversation.
First of all, the prospective tutors have the opportunity to analyze such a one-on-one conversation, such as might have taken place in the LearnING Center, on the basis of a previously developed list of criteria. Afterwards, they can test themselves in a role play. This is recorded with a video camera so that the tutors can both reflect on themselves and give each other feedback. All tutors found this opportunity to prepare for their new job very helpful.
