Finding and applying for an internship

Finding and Applying for an internship

You should start looking for an internship between three and twelve months before your planned start date. The exact timeframe depends on your individual plans. You should think about whether you want to do an internship with a particular company or do an internship abroad early on. While many smaller companies do not have deadlines for internship applications, large companies with particularly sought-after internships and foreign companies sometimes have application deadlines up to a year before the internship begins. It is generally sufficient however to look for a suitable internship position three to six months before your planned start date.

Please register for the Stud.IP course “Fachpraktikum AIW/GES” when you start your search.

Workshops regarding the search and application for an advanced internship (AIW/GES)

To help you finding and applying for an internship you can choose between a workshop series and a one-day compact workshop. You should attend your chosen workshop, depending on your personal aim for your internship, 3-12 months before your internship starts. The workshop series consists of three workshops. The topics of these workshops are “strategy and searching”, “written application documents” and “job interviews”.  Additionally, a workshop regarding the search for an internship abroad will take place in the winter semester 2019/20. Please note that these workshops will be in German language. The one-day compact workshop “All about internships – compact workshop for AIW/GES” offers a brief overview of the relevant topics regarding the search for an internship.
